have given myself a huge challenge today
To remember the songs of my past.
As I look back the eighties were decades away
But my POPTASTIC knowledge is vast
I shall start off with ‘A’, (How its normally done)
And then travel the alphabet so,
Every artist a letter to give me some fun
And from there I will just let it flow.
The Associates sounded like bottled shook bees
As from Scotland the group’s members drew
A strange cultish allegiance (They hailed from Dundee)
And my first song is, ‘Party Fears Two’
Well, that was a test just to see if it’s hard
To connect all the letters with bands
But I know as I go, I will surely discard
Many others, but those left will still stand.
Bauhause, a post punk or gothic outfit
From Northampton these young chaps evolved.
But their cover of one David Bowie’s huge hit
‘Ziggy Stardust’ has left me enthralled.
I met this bands drummer, who now cuts the grass
Of me mates’ mother down the south west
Its ‘The Cure’ with their ever so strange song ‘Love Cats’
You’ll agree that its one of their best.
For my ‘D’ only one band would ever be worth
Getting into my eighties mix tape
They had many great hits but their tune ‘Planet Earth’
Would keep Simon and Co in good shape.
Ian McCullough once said that his song ‘Killing Moon’
Is the greatest thing he’s ever penned.
But then who is this ‘Echo’ that pencilled this tune
With his strange band they called ‘Bunnymen’
It’s so hard coming up with a decent few lines
To convey how my youth was misspent.
But I’ll need to sit down when I’ve got some more time
As to get through this lists my intent.
