Another sunshined cloudless day
Azure blue skies, the mist it sways
The endless columns of wooded groves
As rank and file these soldiers strove.
So green the uniforms crisp and fresh
So green the soldiers knowing less
Than orders barked by Sgt Majors
A troop so lost on thought I’ll wager.
The night descends and mutes the drab,
The olive greens, the bloodied scabs
As vision fades their cones take over
Their eyes now dark, the men take cover
A single blast to sound attack
They’ll sally forth and none fall back
Their lives light up with angry bees
The sight glass wipes out all it sees
The screams of dying men take hold
The troop lay down where none grow old
A hill to take and plant their flag
With every corpse a body bag
